Non-Discrimination

The Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion mission is to ensure that all protected classes are afforded equal employment opportunities per Rhode Island General Law. The purpose of non-discrimination is to ensure equal employment opportunities for applicants and employees. It is based on the premise that, absent discrimination, over time the state’s workforce generally will reflect the demographics of the qualified available workforce in RI.

Frequently Asked Questions on Non-Discrimination Plans (NDP)

According to R.I. Gen. Law, all state agencies with twenty (20) or more employees are required to prepare a plan in accordance with the standards established by the State Equal Opportunity Office. All agencies, regardless of the number of employees, must have a Statement of Policy on Equal Opportunity and Non-Discrimination. For these standards, “agency” is defined as any State Department, public and quasi-public agencies, boards, and commissions excluding the legislative branch.

All plans must be submitted to the Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DEDI)/Equal Opportunity Office (EOO) no later than March 2, 2026

Upon receipt of the Plan, the Equal Opportunity Office will review it and render an approval.  If revisions are requested, they must be completed by the agency and returned to the DEDI/State Equal Opportunity Office within ten (10) working days.

The State Equal Opportunity Office will be available to answer questions and provide technical support as needed.
